Paul Lucas pushing Marine Simulator
It seems everyone wants one of these marine simulators. With Sydney and Melbourne vying for it. Gold Coast not being a port is considered neutral. Gold Coasters would rather see the Gold Coast Spit stay Natural.
So what has this got to do with Our Spit?
Quite a lot as for some reason we need it there. Yep put it alongside the cruise terminal in terms of great ideas.
Australia can only support one as we are competing with Malaysia(4), Sweeden (1), Gothenburg (1) and others.
The facility will have 4 staff and 15-20 trainees at one time. It is a commercial venture by Queensland Transport who consider that they own the land at the Spit and possibly save some money building it there.
Putting it in Brisbane or Mooloolaba where the pilots are based may be more appropriate.
If it is about a nice holiday on the Gold Coast for wives and families hire a limo from where ever and do what visiting US Forces do come to the the Gold Coast anyway - just leave your footprints in the sand no cement required we have plenty already.
The community had been fighting for over 50 years to keep The Spit as natural as possible and this simulator does not fit with community aspirations or the local area plan.
At present the GCCC has issued a request for further information.
With recent cabinet changes we hope that Transport Minister
John Mickel can come to similar conclusions to Peter Beattie - that Gold Coasters like the Spit to remain natural without any more "special projects".
