News Gold Coast City Marina - ExposedHype, hype and more hype coming from the Gold Coast City Marina - backed consortium. The recent article 'Cruising the Broadwater' in Life Magazine read like a well paid advertisement. Shall we blindly follow their light into the future? Build a glossy document, call it a Broadwater Master Plan - predict economic benefits, lobby a Government that you are the vision for the future, make lots of money for yourself and take away the free public open space enjoyed by many. Imagine going to somewhere like Byron Bay and trying to push this ridiculous land grab. "The Broadwater will be a better place for everyone. Whether you've got $10 in your pocket and you are going down to the fish and chip shop with your family to watch the boats or whether you've got one of these $100 million super yachts it's a stunning location that needs to be enjoyed by everyone within the community," says Dean. [Dean Leigh-Smith] So that is everybody in the community - the ones with the yachts and those that look at them. What about all of the people who currently enjoy the public open space of the Broadwater and Spit area, divers, fishermen, surfers, dog walkers, folks who pull up in the safe harbour of Marine Stadium, families, swimmers, etc. These people who on any given day, 99% of whom are against the blatant land grab advocated by the likes of the Gold Coast City Marina backed consortium. Perhaps it is better that Gold Coast City Marina stay exactly where you are - do not extend your business into our public open space. I am sure you want for nothing financially so why take our public open space away under the guise of doing us good. We have created a Gold Coast Business Directory to thank businesses who have helped us and continue to help us. There may even be a boat repairer in there. |
