Cruise Ship Terminal - White Elephant
Another letter not published locally...Cruise Ship Terminal - Cruise Ship Terminal - Cruise Ship Terminal
Like a small child that latches on to a specific word or saying, it
appears that many citizens of our fair city have become accordingly
"lemming-ised".
The logistics of creating this "white elephant" here are so unrealistic
and illogical that those who are qualified to comment must be shaking
their heads in amazed disbelief - AND an offshore terminal proposed by an otherwise worthy Councillor !!!
To dredge a swinging basin between the Spit and Wavebreak would require the removal of hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of material.
The Seaway is too restricted to be readily navigable (note the recent
disaster in the Pyrrhenian "Costa Concordia").
The cost of wharf and allied buildings would be considerable (and
unsightly).
Surely reason must dictate:-
(i) Ships berth in Brisbane as usual.
(ii) Cruise tourists who want to see our coastal beauty, Gold Coast City and Hinterland environs would be divided into two groups :-
(a) Be carried on chartered ferries along the inner Broadwater to
Southport and transferred to buses to return to Brisbane via Mt.
Tamborine.
(b) The second group would reverser 'A' and be carried by bus to Surfers Paradise via Tamborine and return by ferry to Brisbane.
Thus a very attractive comprehensive sight-seeing "adventure" would
acquaint these visitors with our very interesting and beautiful "South
East Paradise".
LOGIC MUST PREVAIL.
