News Premier Beattie Saves Our SpitDear fellow Spitfighters,
Premier Beattie has made a very big announcement
today.
He announced that the Gold Coast Marine Development
Project will be revised so that:
1. the Spit lands north of Sea World
(including DJ Park and the Marine Stadium) would be preserved as public
open space; and
2. development of The Spit would be focussed south of Sea World in the 8- 10 hectares of crown land north of Southport Yacht Club and north of Versace. That's GREAT news for everyone who has supported SOSA over the years. That's what 9GCN described today as "people power" and we can only thank you for making such a difference!!! So where to? Well, don't break out the drinks yet...
Our job will be to:
1. ensure that the Dept of Transport withdraws its stupid application for a marine simulator next to the kiosk; 2. ensure that the Beattie Government GAZETTES the land north of Sea World to protect it as parklands and waterways forever; 3. ensure the Beattie Government includes rules that developer proposals for south of Sea World comply with the Local Area Plan & those all important height limits. No Gold Coaster wants highrises on our Spit! 4. ensure that developer proposals look after the 'vibe' of our Spit and do not damage the beautiful Broadwater; and 5. ensure that proposals to 'enhance' the areas north of Sea World are best practice environmental and community planning to preserve our natural environment - which will be loved and enjoyed by our community forever. So don't rest too much you Spitfighter you, keep tuned to www.saveourspit.com and please get your friends to sign up too. It's the best and quickest way for us to contact you when
stuff happens. As it does to Our Spit.
Save our spit. See it
through.
Best regards,
Your Committee
