Bob the Bikie - Unofficial Mayor of the Spit
I ran into Bob the bikie the other day. He is an elderly cyclist who has been riding in the area for so long many call him the Unofficial Mayor of the Spit.
He said there is dozens of people who come to the spit for work and leisure.
They all look after the area and want to protect it.
He just rolled off names-:
- Larrie the Snorkeller
- Eric the Dog Walker
- Keith the Garbo
- Derek the Coffee Drinker
- Vince the Grass Cutter
- Dexter the Can Collector
- Paul the Runner
- Terry the Fishermen
He paused for breath and said what about all the people who eat Rays famous crab sandwiches enjoying the water views, then stroll out to the lighthouse or around the park.
As he jumped back on his bike he said all these people and a lot more he knows are passionate about the Spit.
Bob will have a Save Our Spit sticker if you are looking for one. The SOS alliance asks for a gold coin donation to help fund the next bath of stickers. These are vinyl and should go the distance.
