We request the Queensland State government review and reverse the change to 'Purpose of Land Use' decision made on Special Lease 52285.

Sunland received the 'change of purpose' for the Spit land lease under the Newman government on 4 July 2014. This decision was made without following proper process. That is, at the very least, consulting the relevant Divisional Councillor (Cr Lex Bell) and State Minister (Hon JP Langbroek). 

The impact of this change is of the utmost significance for the Gold Coast City Council and its residents. By having these new lease terms on this public land, the developers' shareholders can not be satisfied rejuvenating the Mariner's Cove at the appropriate three storey limit. As a publicly listed company, Sunland are now committed to exploiting the new lease change to ensure maximum profit for their shareholders.

This sets up a problem for Council for the foreseeable future where the developer is incentivised to continue to put up proposals for inappropriate development on this land. Even if Council continues to decline all of these proposals, it is a very costly exercise for Council, and it means the developer can not align with what is actually appropriate development for this land.

We request a thorough investigation to ensure proper process for this public land and proper intent for the land is restored.
